Do I need to write a motivation/cover letter while applying in Switzerland?
Most companies will ask for a motivation letter, so yes, it is still considered as an added value in Switzerland, although there are signs on the labor market that international influences tend to make it (very) slowly disappear. Undoubtably, if you are requested to do so in the ad or in the web form, you will have to write one, or you will have no chance to go to the next step and get an interview. In this letter it is expected that you highlight the match between your skills and position requirements, i.e., describe convincingly why exactly you are the right person for the job.
